My Roketa Bali 150 - A Frist Impression
By Charles Ketchum | Published  11/23/2006
I received my new scoot last week. It sure is nice looking The crate was incredibly beat up when I unpacked it and there was some body panel damage at the left foot pad (presumably from a forklift and it was an easy fix) and the right mirror was broken. Assembly went smoothly except for the inablility to adjust the (*)^T*&%&^) mirrors! What pieces of ___! I kicked the manual start 4 times and then tried the electric start and it started the first try! I am very impressed with fit and finish except as mentioned above. I took it into town this evening (7 1/2 miles at 36 degrees..brrrr) and ran it for all she was worth (using hard break in). I reached about 64-5 mph with what I am guessing to be about a 10% error the high side. This was achieved on winding and extremely mountainess roads (not many straights here and definetly not much flat for sure) The unit is a 2006 made last month. The battery is a 9 amp yuesu (spelling), has ABS on the front disc. It was very smooth accelerating, and had some noticeable rattles in the under panel (upon inspection found it to be a bolt of unknown origin). Gas line was hooked up, the muffler bolts were tight! The headlights in the dark SUCK! First they need to be adjusted for a further reach ahead of the bike and then I will be doing a change from the 18 watt bulbs to 35 watt bulbs (all the bike will handle electrically) very soon. The radio is a waste of electronic components! If you buy a scoot with one, either upgrade or get rid of it. Mine is already out to provide more underseat storage. The radio was poorly installed and was very hard to hear due speaker mounting behind the front fairing without benefit of a grill on either speaker. The gas filler is up front in the middle for easy access. The brakes are robust and well behaved. The bike handles extremely well in the wind as I had gusts averaging 35 and some reported upward of 43 mph this afternoon and evening. I did feel what I felt to be excessive wallow in right hand turns and don't know what is causing the feeling but I am getting used to it. It feels as if the rear tire is mushy but I brought them to within 2# of specs (as shown on the tires). Oh, and speaking of tires they are Pirelli's! a first from what I have read. I changed all fluids prior to the first ride to american fluids. It is a quiet scoot, and the muffler produces deep and not unpleasant tones. Fit and finish were good with a couple of minor exceptions ie: right side body panel was rattling and upon inspection two screws were missing. I took the advise many and used rubber washers on the windhield and it is stable and quiet. The seat looked a little too forward to me when I uncrated it but when I drove it the feel was different and is quite comfortable. I am 5'9" and it was almost perfect. My wife and I had it up to almost 55 mph+- on the highway and we are not light weights. I am 220# and she is 190# a lot of beef. The rear of the seat is elevated for the passenger to see over the driver and both seats have small lumbar supports and they effectively prevent sliding back on acceleration. My wife says that it is exceptionally windy back there (well duh?). The seat is made of the same material you see on ballistic covered baggage. It is really tough stuff. The Mirrors are just junk! No other way to put it. I like having the turn signals on them but what is the point if you can't adjust the mirrors to see behind you? They seem to be ill conceived, and almost an after thought. I need desperately to come up with another arrangement, a fix or workaround to make these better. The mirror insets themselves are NON adjustable..they are fixed! How dumb is that? I just completed 150 miles on the scoot and changed the gear lube and crankcase oil. Both of these were easy to find, easy to access. The exception is that in order to refill the gear lube I needed to use a pump type oil can. I simply measured out the oil in a measuring cup (as suggested by scootdawg.com) and poured the correct amount (3.7 oz's) into the can and used it to pump the lube into the gear lube filler. I used Royal Lube 75w-90 for the gear lube and Royal Lube 5w-30 in the crankcase. A recent discovery is what I believe to be an exhaust leak. I will be checking it in the morning. All in all this scoot was very good investment ($1299.95 delivered) Not a bad deal considering that Honda or Yamaha is nearly 4 times that.

I have to agree with you charles ketchum, I just bought mine from allnewsports.com on 3-21 and just got it 3-26-07. My paper work came in on the 27th and i finally just registered my bali 150. My first impression on this is WOW. Easy to start and easy to ride. I use to ride harleys back in the late 80 and they were hard and difficult to ship. With the bali 150 it is a automatic so it was easy and smooth. I love it so far and will keep you guys updated.

Well I have not had the good luck you have had. I orderd mine from allnewsports and it came in busted up, I refused delivery. Then they call me and we worked out a deal where they would send me replacement parts and I would replace the flaring and a few other parts.
Well that was 4 months ago. I keep going back to them inquiring and I just keep getting the run around. But back to the Scooter, fuel sending unit failed right away and I am still awaiting a new one. Rids pretty good. But when it gets down to 45 or lower the 50min rid to work sure gets cold. Milage is not as good as I was hoping for and I am only 170 lbs. I also found out that it does not like a head wind at all. I go from 62-65 down to about 55 if I have a 10mph or greater head wind which seems to be pretty regular.

But as you say Charles, for the dollar it isn't to bad. Considering what Yamaha and Honda get. I would likly by another one, but not from the same store.

I to agree with the headlight at night I was wandering if I could get a brighter bulb. 18 to a 35watt is all it takes. Thanx

I have a bali 150 I bought from allnewsports 4/25/08. I recieved it pretty quick and there were only minor damages to the bike in shipment. I road it for about 250 miles and the rear brake messed up it is now in the shop being repaired. However allnewsports has provided parts as needed and fairly quickly. If I can get the rear brakes working I will be extremely happy with it.

Charles, I purchased a bali-150 from a friend who just couldn't handle not being on a "real" bike... as he has been a bike enthusiast for years... but just got back into riding. Any way the bike seems to be leaking a lot of oil.. the local shop told me that they won't touch it unless i find the gaskets... Do you know ... I didn't get a manual... what type of engine it has in it? I found some gaskets on partsforscooters.com and they say the gy6 engine is the typical engine in these types of scooters.. any ideas. I have troubles with the mirrors. I placed a couple of screws through the housing to hold the mirror inserts still, and still trying to figure out a way to keep them locked in place. I'm considering trying lock-tite otherwise I have had minor problems with the chrome cover of the exhaust rattling loose... I have now placed lock washers on them.. we'll see if that holds this summer. and Also had the muffler rattle off.. a new gasket and nuts the shop had that fixed up. Thanks for the blog

Got my Bali last week from stateoftheartpowersports.com, only 100 miles on it so far but I am quite satistfied! This scoot has the power and comfort to carry my wife and I for nice long cruises. I recommend this dealer, I experienced none of the horror stories commonly associated with most of these chinese import vendors these days. Perhaps I'll update if I remember when I've hit 1000 miles to let any potential buyers know it I'm still happy with my Bali. Hope this was helpful. P.S.- the cheap stock speakers in it are heard just fine, but only if you're in that air cushion in the front seat directly behind the windshield, and only with a helmet exposing your ears

I also have purchased mine from all new sports, but I have the hardest time getting ahold of them. Right now I am having troubles keeping the bike started. I can get them to turn over but then they putter for a bit and as soon as I touch the throttle they cut out. Anyone have any idea what it might be. I have two of them and they are both doing the same thing. I loved them when they worked but it is really frustrating, and I can not find someone that will service them.

I originally refused delivery and Sarah called me and said they would replace every panel free of charge and mail it to me ASAP. So Land Air Express re-delivered it and I had accepted delivery with those expectations.

Sarah asked me to send an email with pictures of the damage from shipping to this address. Basically, EVERY panel is damaged but the front fender and skid plate and the antenna snapped off and right blinker light needs to be replaced and the rear spoiler. I emailed pictures.

Many emails and many, many phone calls and nothing was ever sent. go to www.ripoffreport.com to see how many others have had the same issue.

These promises were constant lies and a waste of my time. $2300 for a 250CC Scooter worth about a $1000 when I received it.

After the many emails and phone calls over a 6 month period and rude customer service I realized I was screwed. This business should be closed down!! They are useless
DO NOT BUY FROM THESE PEOPLE!!!

They are now going under the company name
"WWWALITESCOOTER.COM" They are the same company and say they have their main office out of OK instead.

I have received my scooter in mid June I had a few shipping issues that I am still trying to work out with ScooterNitro. I have only put 300 miles on my scooter and when I went to start it today it would not start. I charged the battery and it started right away. I did notice that it was not turning off all the way. What I mean by this is that I turned the key to the off position and removed it from the scooter and I used the cut off switch and my lights, the horn and the gauges for my fuel and battery were still working as if I never turned off my scooter. With this happening it is draining my battery. I called ScooterNitro and they were unable to assist me with this problem. I have called several motorcycle shops and I am unable to find any in my area that will service my scooter. If anyone has any ideas please email me and let me know at suznga@yahoo.com
Thanks for any help with this matter. Suz

I received my Bali 150cc a few weeks ago. It arrived in pretty good shape, with only minor imperfections. It was a little longer of a wait to receive it, but it turned out to be the hub out of Kansas City. Upon completion of assembly, I had a slight problem, it wouldn't start. I did finally get it to kick start, but the electric start didn't work. My friends and I figured out it was they relay, and I ordered one out of Florida for less than $20.00 total. Took only 10 minuted to install, and it started up. Don't know if anyone has had the problem of starting theirs, but it was a simple fix. After a couple of weeks, I noticed a small gas leak. Upon inspection, I found it to be the fuel filter. $10.00 more dollars and it was fixed. I get around 86 mpg. so far, and am pretty pleased with it other than the mentioned items. I have a little under 400 miles, but will keep you posted on any other problems. Oh yeah, my friend has basically the same scooter, and his fuel filter was also leaking,so I assume they are junk. They are an easy fix, and you can get a fliter from your local small motor stores, like a tractor supply etc. Keep the comments coming, if anyone has the same problems or answers to fix exsisting problems. Good luck.

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH CHINESE SCOOTERS. I currently own one, and I would HIGHLY advise against it. Why? I'll list the reasons point by point below:

First, I bought a Bali 150cc from scooternitro.com. The box showed up damaged, but the scooter was ok except for a damaged windshield. You can't rely on the online dealers to provide parts or service - they don't stock parts and aren't a repair shop. If you scooter needs repairs (and it will), NO LOCAL SCOOTER SHOPS WILL TOUCH THEM - you'll have to ship it back to China to be repaired. There goes $400.

    1. My Bali 150 showed up with a damaged windshield. Upon calling scooternitro.com, they couldn't send replacement parts because they don't stock parts, and it isn't covered under the 'free' 36-month warranty, which is engine only.

    2. Bali 150 also had a flat front tire. Pumped it up, and it was flat within 12 hours. Eventually had the front tire replaced. Still went flat. Finally found two holes in the rim - had to strip off the paint and JB weld the holes over. It worked, but it was a pain in the butt and should have been unnecessary.

    3. Scooters that have "ABS brakes" are not actually anti-lock brakes. They simply prevent the brakes from operating at 100% in cases where the brake lever is pulled quickly. In my opinion, this is dangerous.

    4. The disc brakes rub like crazy. There is a constant metallic rubbing sound from both brakes. Since you can't adjust disc brakes, you just have to live with the sound and hope the brakes work.

    5. You need a motorcycle license, insurance, and plates/registration to drive any scooter over 50 cc. If you know this going in, more power to you.

    6. NO LOCAL SCOOTER SHOPS WILL REPAIR CHINESE SCOOTERS. They simply won't touch them. You'll have to do repairs yourself.

    7. In many states, Chinese scooters CANNOT BE REGISTERED OR PLATED. I found this out yesterday. Fortunately, the Roketa Bali 150 from scooternitro.com CAN be registered, but it's a rare case. The lady at the DMV yesterday told me they just got done sending letters to 100 scooter owners asking for the plates to be returned because they were not on EPA/DOT authorized scooters.

    8. The online scooter store owners are liars and cheats. Just check the BBB if you don't believe me. Scooternitro.com has an "F" rating from the BBB for 31 unresolved complaints (oh, and 1 resolved complaint, of 32 total). These guys are a step above criminals.

    9. Chinese scooters are not well built. You'll likely crack the plastic if you attempt to take it apart, even carefully, and the internal engine components are of very poor quality.

That said, I still own my Bali 150. I only use it to commute about 10 miles to work, and the only reason I haven't junked it yet is because it's still running and I can't afford that Honda Shadow yet. The second I can, this piece of Chinese crap is gone.

Do yourself a big favor. If you're thinking about buying a Chinese scooter, and think you have done your homework like I did, don't go through with it. Put that $1500 into a savings account and when you have $5000 go to your local scooter or powersports dealer and BUY A REAL MOTORCYCLE OR SCOOTER. You can get a used Honda scooter for about $3000 that will last for years and can be repaired locally.

I'm begging you as a Chinese scooter owner - don't make the same mistake I made.

FYI - I also posted two 2-star reviews on scooternitro.com's board. Both have been censored by scooternitro.com (who mysteriously has allowed all the 5-star reviews to post).
