The new Tank Touring 250

The new Tank Touring 250 (continued)

I was really excited when I heard that we had a Tank Urban Touring 250 in our warehouse.  So exited that I immediately asked our mechanic to assemble the scooter.  I wanted to be the first one testing this scooter.  The Tank Urban Touring 250 was assembled. Our mechanic made some adjustments, added gas, installed the battery. First glance the scooter looks the same as the 150, same body style but you can also notice the difference in physical engine size.    It was basically the same assembly as the 150.  The scooter was completed and it looked nice…

Sat down on the scooter and began to crank.  Being a new scooter it took a few tries but it eventually started.  The sound was much throatier and deeper than the 150. After a few engine revs I noticed a vibration noise coming from the rear.  Our mechanic checked and could not pin-point where the noise was coming from.  It sounded as if it was coming from the trunk area.  Some more adjustments and still the same noise and vibration.  We contacted Tank the manufacturer and we were informed that they have noticed the same in the other sample models that they had received.

We decided to continue with our test. WOW big difference on the pickup… This bike from the get go is much responsive to the throttle than the 150. I left the complex where the shop is located and went for a small ride around the block.  Acceleration on the scooter was great, quick response, great comfort but I could not see through my rearview mirrors due to the vibration.  This may be something that Tank may want to look at.

When comparing the Tank Touring 250 to the Kymco Bet and Win 250 I can frankly say that performance is awesome on both scooters.  Acceleration, braking, comfort and ride on both scooters is very similar.  The difference would be in the instrumentation, the Kymco digital instrumentation panel is great and the vibration on the rear trunk area on the Tank Touring 250.  I will continue to follow up on the Touring and report any changes in the near future.

The Tank Touring 250 is definitely a great choice when considering the purchase of a 250cc scooter.

A picture even if it IS the same as the 150 would be great. Would be interested in the follow up regarding the vibration and a side by side of the acceleration of the Tank v. the Kymco. How much storage... same as 150 The mirrors... same as 150 What motor is this based on Too many aspects not covered. So many questions so little time.

How much are you selling the Tank Touring 250 for and what colors will be available Also would this scooter be allowed on California highways Would love to see the photos and would like to get a follow up on what the vibration is. Thanks.

Not a lot of information. How far did you ride it If the vibration is so bad that you couldn't see out of the mirrors I'd think the thing would vibrate itself to death in a short period of time.

Well.. I know it is just first impressions a review not a "test" but I want issues addressed such as reliability parts availability mpg top speed (so I can better judge how it will do on freeways and such at less than top speed). What is the weight Can you see out of the mirrors at lower speeds Will my hands hurt from the vibration if I take a 100 mile trip on it How big is the fuel tank How much will this retail for
Then i read your post further dow. I will stand by for additional info.

I would love an update. I have the same scooter the vibration isn't too bad. Some of it is the cold weather idle running a little high. I notice a little rattle with the plastic windshield but not bad. Tremendous value for the money do expect a few fit and finish problems (nothing major). Mine had a rear seat latch problem a few paint blemishes (minor and I ordered a black one so could do easy touch up).

I bought a 2006 Tank Urban Touring Deluxe 250 May 52006 and have about 450 miles on it. I have had a crankcase ventilation hose on the elbow out of the top of the valve cover get a hole worn in it from the plastic access cover screw under the seat. The movement of the engine rubs the hose against the plastic body panel and screw. The dealer I bought it from says this is a common problem but offers no solution. The correct solution would be to turn the elbow 30 degrees to be inline with the length of the scooter.
I also have noticed the rear vibration which in my case turned into a rear shaft bearing failure. I noticed a low speed clicking noise around 2-5 mph. I haven't found a service or parts manual yet so I will be on my own to take it apart for repair. If anyone has any info to the wherabouts of such information please let me know at ldshawusyahoo.com

A short test drive I took on freeway @65mPH with no trouble getting to showed the temp getting hot and at the H ( bike only had 40 miles on it and wondering if that is too much stress it was only for a short test ... Have there been Temp problems

I really do like the look of the scooter and the better handling over the 150 at 50 mph

I came here to see why this scooter sells for 2200 shipped while a Honda Reflex 250 sells for 5500 at a dealer. I guess you get what you pay for. One place says they refuse to ship directly to consumers because it's too difficult to put together only ship to a dealer of your choice for assembly. What a surprise it would be to order one of these and have a box of parts show up. Add in the bad vibration and parts going bad early. 2 wheel cycling on the road is dangerous enough without using questionable equipment. The only reason I would buy one of these now is as a test to try out scootering before spending money on a real one later if I like it.

I also have a 250cc I think it is a TANK but it has ROKETA BALI-250 on the sides of it I questioned the dealer about it and they gave a long line of BS about TANK Mfg and ROKETA Mfg. I had had a 150cc TANK but sold it to get the 250 after driving 250cc Honda. The only thing I see between the TANK 150 and the ROKETA 250 is the body parts on ROKETA do not fit and line up as well as the TANK does and of course the performance. Also the owner's manual for the ROKETA is written much better that the one for TANK but neither one of then are very informative. Please send me any comments

Again wish there was an update to the issues raised in the original review. I have a Tank 250cc and have been driving mine about 7 months now. It would be an outstanding scoot except for some minor issues (fit and finish of the seat latch radiator overheats occasionally cheap cargo trunk cheap mirrors). Overall though the scoot is more of a bargain than expensive imports from Japan. You do need to roll up your sleeves and work out the bugs when it arrives especially so if you purchase it via freight and don't have a local dealer. I just received my Tank Deluxe 250cc 7/26/2006. I received it by freight from EVO sales out of LA. The scooter arrived in very good condition haveing come all the way across the country by train and truck. I was a little miffed when I opened it up and could not find any instruction for the installation of the front wheel fender tork specs for the front axel only a owners manual that was written in some form of english I didn't understand. I am a little mechanicaly inclined so i figured out the installation of the items. Then it was start up time well I cranked and craked on this thing for about 2 hrs. on and off. I finally gave up and let it sit overnight. The next morning I remembered how easy these engines were to flood so I used the way I used to start my old scooter. I just turned the throttle open twice and let it off and hit the start button and it started right up. How easy was that After I got it statred I was ready to jump on this rocket and ride. I started down the drive and up the road to get it state inspected. I got the the inspection station and was returning when I noticed that the temp. gage was running pretty warm. I thought it was due to being new and maybe low on antifreeze. I checked this and later decided to go for a ride and off I went. I had gone about 10 miles and noticed that it was running warm again. Buy the time I got back home it was hot. Can't figure this out yet. It seems that maybe the fan is not working. I have tried to find a service center but no luck. The ones around here only work on the small scooters. I am going to tear into it tomorrow my self and check the fan operation and wiring. It sure would be nice if the would provide you with a tech manual for these things so you would know how and where thing go. Has anyone found a Tech manual for a Tank Deluxe 250 Touring model if so let me know at camw5046@peoplepc.com. The vibration discussed above on my scooter is not that bad the 50cc Forte I had before this one was worse. I do think that once I get this overheating problem solved I will be well pleased with the scooter. One other thing if you decide to buy one of them over the internet as I did make sure you go through EVO sales and not one of there affiliates as I did. It will save you a lot of headaces. EVO Sales is the U S destribitior and all the affiliates have the get them from them. So you may as well go directly to the source and miss all the run around. Enjoy you ride.

I ordered my scooter (Tank Touring 250) on 6-24 and received it on 7-11 in good condition. Had to wait till 7-29 for paperwork. The front wheel spacer was missing and had to wait for that as well.
After assembly which I did myself I had many questions which were not answered in the manual--mostly because of the poor translation.
I would not recommend thet a novice prep these bikes unless you have had a lot of experience.
After starting it I find a lot of vibration useless mirrorsdue to vibration. The heat guage read close to the H at about 50-55 mph. The bike will be lucky to do 68 mph and has 16.3 HP instead of the 18.9 that was advertised. It also has a 10 inch rear tire instead of the 12 inch that was advertised. The suggested top speed is supposed to be 75-85 and will not go 70. Gas mileage stated to be in the 80's will not do better than the upper 50's. Nedless to say with a bike that does not resemble what I ordered and vibrates overheats and isn't much of a performeris not a pleasure. I would rather have my 2100 bucks back.

Just an update. I have abut 300 mi on my scooter now and have worked out most of the bugs. I am glad to say the the overheating issue is fixed. I replace the coolant with 100 antifreeze the gauge still show that the engine is warm so I took my infraed laser heat probe and check the engine all over for its temp. the warmest(except exhaust 314 deg.) I could find was 179.4 deg. at the water pump. This leads me to beleive that the sending unit or guage is bad. I found that the breather hose on top of the engine had a hole in it due to the screw holding the cover in place. I removed the end and cut off the damage and replaced it then left the screw out of the cover that had caused the damage. This scooter is a real pleasure to drive it handles very well in traffic and it has plenty of get up and go. I made a short trip the other day and had to get on to I-40 for to get there. This thing just kept up with traffic at 65mph with little effort and there was still plenty of go left but that was as fast as I wanted to go. My son and I went up into the mountains the other day and he was suprised at how well I could keep up going up the hills and around the curves (he has a Harley). After a lot of issues after the arrival of the scooter is sure is nice to be able to ride and enjoy it.

For anyone who has a Tank scooter check out this web site you will find a pleasant suprise. There is help out there. (oregonvintage.com/scooter.html)

    Lots of fun riding

I just bought a tank 250 took delivery on 8/6/06 I've taken it out 5 times for a total of 60 miles and had to haul it back due to overheating flushed the system 3 times to no avail so used "40below" coolant and tried it it stayed cool until the fan motor and shroud blew apart its currently disassembled waiting for parts from evosales the speedometer is off by 15mph over 30mph vibration makes it difficult to use the rear view mirrors the radio is useless with the engine running and I doubt the new fan will last because it has to run continualy to keep the engine cool the radiator is mounted behind the gas tank and there is no baffeling on the inner body to direct air flow to the radiator the bike is a chinese queen piece of junk if you had ridden this any distance to do a true comparison I'm sure you would agree

I just assembled my wife's Tank touring 250 DE. There were a few issues. One of the turn signals had fallen into the front cowling and when I removed the cowling to fix it I found that both signals had been just popped in and no screws were installed to hold them. I fixed this easily out of my copious collection of hardware I keep around the garage. The major incident was when I went to fill the gas tank. The gauge had been installed without a gasket and two gallons of gas slowly drained to the pavement. I had to make my own gasket and install it. This is NOT a job for the non-mechanically inclined. If yopu are not at least an experienced shadetree hotrodder take this to a shop and pay to have it done.

Just received my 250cc Viva not sure what the difference is between it and the Tank except for cosmetic trim. Currently everything works but I emmediately removed the screw under the seat that cuts or punctures a line. I drive round trip 110 miles per day to work. So I should have some high miles accumulating if it doesn't fall out from underneath me. And if the P.O.S. does then Ill rip out the engine and mount a 21 HP briggs Stratton V-twin air-cooled motor for a replacement; At least then part of it will be American. Catch ya all later

A note to Jay. I beleive that your speedometer cable is broken. This happened to mine and I called EVO Sales for a replacement. After waiting 2 weeks I got the part but it was not the correct one the cable was too short. What you need to do is go to and automotive supply store (Advance ect.) and ask for a generic speedometer replacement kit. Make sure you get one for metric. Take out the old cable and measure it for length and cut and mount the cable end supplied with the kit. Also make sure that you take both ends of the cable loose as there is probably a small piece broken off in the end of the speedometer itself. You will also need to releive the sharp bend in the cable to eleminate a future break. You only need to remove the four screws holding on the front cowl and you can get your hand up to the back of the speedometer.

    good luck

I am looking to purchase a 250 scooter and appreciate the review. Some more tech and spec info would be helpful. How 'bout those vibes Is this a common malady in 250 size scoots After reading all the comments below I am having second thoughts about the Tank Scooters. The specs on the different sales sites on the web give different sizes for the back tire. Is it 10" or 12" on the 2006/2007 Urban Touring 250 And some say 233cc some say 249cc. Whats up with that And the seat height Does anyone really know I had an Aprilia Atlantic 500 (2003) and that really spoiled me on scooters. But they are pricey! I sold it and sometimes wish I had it back. But for the money this Tank SEEMS like a good deal. I am reminded of an old saying: "The stench of poor quality remains long after the sweet smell of a good price". Does that apply in this case Thanks and if you have a helpful comment please e-mail me at lcmike@peoplepc.com Thanks for all you who took time to write on this subject. Mike

reply to comment 68. These machines are not US quality but they do work well when you get the bugs out. The overheating with mine was the fan was not hooked up. It still shows that it running warm but I put a laser heat probe on it to check the temp. It was not hot after I fixed the fan. These temp and fuel gauges are very inaccurate. So with that said you may not have an overheating problem after all. Hope you can work out all your bugs also.

Purchased a Tank 150 Touring Deluxe in July 2006. My experience so far is "you get what you pay for." I had to raplace all the fuel and vacuum hoses. The rubber is really cheap on these bikes. A band broke in the muffler the fuel filter leaked and the wireless remote chirped once than died. It has a stiff ride feels shakey over 50 MPH and the rear tire had 65 pounds of air pressure in it on arrival. Took the whole thing apart at set-up. Screws were stripped out washers were missing (don't think they were installed at all) and critical bolts on the engine and frame were loose. Having said all of this and 200 dollars more "out of my pocket to get this thing on the road safe" the scooter seemed to turn out to be a decent bike after all. If you want to be safe better check these things over real good to aviod "road rash" if you know what I mean. I'm really not kicking it for the money but its a scooter that "you have to make work" to be safe on the highway. The GY6 150cc cloned engine does run fine so far but if you want a real scooter it is better to "jack up" alittle more money for a better qualily scooter with a decent warranty. Japan has won on quality again. Thanks

Finally got my viva250 on the blacktop. Although I'm running a 10' rear tire With adequate straight-away I reached 70 MPH with a tad bit of throttle left. It seems a bit light at that speed and a little squirrely (No Shit Sherlock) Anyway after a few seconds it cuts out back down to 40 but after a few seconds will return back to max speed. Will be trying to find the restriction next. If anyone has had this problem please note. P.S. Any reason why there should be 2 in-line fuel filters Seems a bit excessive.

The 150cc Scooters are nice but I feel Its best to have more power even If you are not going to use it often push any motor to its limits all the time and you will soon be buying a new motor. The Tank 250CC has nice style to it and yes a whole lot of power that will allow you to kick that scooter up when you need the power due to some kind of road problem. Also the price cant be beat If you compare to the big shot top Scooter and Motorcycle shops. I dont have much to spend and am saving up for a 250 cc Tank I am half there now. I have only driving a 4 wheeler of a friends but drove a small Scooter years ago. I am now 56 and dont know If Its kind of late In the sun shine of my life to get a Scooter but I am. My wife can keep the car. On rainny days i may look at the Car.

I wrote comment 68. Since my son has figured out that his overheting problem turned out to be caused by the fuse panel. The fuse that runs the fan did not fit tightly in its place so the fan would not run most of the time. he modified it and now loves his scooter!

i ordered a tank touring 250 off the net.when i opened the crate it looked like the tank(that's a good manly name for a scooter)to my dismaythe name brand was "WUSSI".i looked the co. name on the net and the scooter was marketed for puerto ricoi guess wussi means something else in puerto ricanohwell.anywayit's actually a baron 250 touring made by shanghi motersi don't know if they make tank also.but it seems to be identical to the tanksincluding the problemsshaky mirrorsthe hose on top of the engine that hits a gets holes in itoverheating.now with all these problemsi still love riding itit's fun to ride.i got the mirrors where i can actually use them.that hose on top of the motor split from hitting the underneath of the seat compartmenti put a new hose on it and cut out some of the seat compartment(right above where it was hitting)now it's fine.as far as the vibration in the rear seat areai figured our it was items i was carringing in my seat compartmentso i layered the inside of the compartment with rubber (car floormats)cut them to fit and that quieted it down real good.the over heating was due to the crummy senser they put on it(the fan wasn't kicking ini ended up wiring the fan to my lights so when the engine is running the fan also runsthe gauge still registers hotbut it's never really overheated.i get about 63mpg and can cruise at that speed also.top speed is 77mphbut when i hit top speed the engine starts cutting out and drops down to 55nmh before it picks back up to cruising speed.i don't know if there is a governor or why it does that.right now i'm having problems with it cutting out and i'm trying to adjust the carberatorthe adjustment screw is in a hell of a place(on the bottom of the carb)and after you take all the air cleaner hoses of you can bearly get to itand i've had no luck taking it to any shop to have them look at itif it isn't there brand or they didn't sell it to you they won't touch it.if anyone knows of anyone in the dallas area that i can take it to please let me know.thanksnicholas(the wild "WUSSI" rider

OMFG that's hilarious. So glad mine doesn't say Wussi. I'm actually going pull the Tank decal off or people start asking what's a Tank and i have to explain that it's a Chinese ripoff of Japanese bikes. Anyway overall i like my 250 so far. I've only ridden it a couple of days but it's smoother than my Honda Elite 150. The switches don't seem as flimsy as i thought they would be. I bought it from a local dealer and paid a few hundred dollars more than online. Why Because i figured something's going to go wrong with a Chinese bike and my mechanic will do free fixes within the warranty. Plus it was worth not having to put the stupid thing together (after a 2 week wait to arrive). I took the panel off under the seat and sure enough the panel's screw bit a hole in the vaccum hose. The dealer fixed that as well as a loose muffler a seat latch that wasn't locking and a gimp brake handle. The mirrors of course are cheap but i think it's a standard bolt size so other mirrors should work. But then the turning signals that are on the stock mirrors wouldn't work unless you somehow attatched them to the new mirrors. The dual headlights seem dimmer than my Honda Elite and the horn seems quieter. I may replace those. The radio is loud enough but you have to open the seat to get at the radio to change the channel(!). Anyway.. took the bike for spin today down the Pacific Coast Highway which runs along the Pacific Ocean. Sun setting over the ocean Sweet Home Alabama playing on the radio big smile on my face. I'll probably be back in a week or two with another update. Anyone know how to adjust the brakes I didn't see any adjustment screws. - Jeff in SF

Recieved my ROKETA 250 scooter today. So far im fairly pleased. The scooter came more assembled then I though it whould, meaning the front brake/rotor/wheel etc. were already intact. All I had to do was install mirrors fill battery screw in windhield and footpads. After all that I installed the battery and nothing, upon further inspection the fuse was not connected very easy fix. All the lights worked perfect so I went to start crankin and after 4 mins vroom. Checked all my fluids brakes and went for a spin. A little quicker than i expected. I dont see any probs keepin up with traffic. My mirrors dont vibrate at all due to the bushings. My only complaint is bady panels are a little chinsy lookin and although i havent broken any yet all clips seem very flimsy.. First thing tomorrow im picking up new better bulbs(just not gonna cut it in the dark)and fresh fluids. SO FAR SO GOOD

It is working on two months now since I purchased my Roketa 250 Bali Touring. My overheating problem was due to a cracked antifreeze filler neck on the right side. I had the front section of the scooter almost completely apart before I discovered that. I checked the fan and everything also. The dealer did not have a filler neck so I forked out 5 bucks plus shipping and got one from a dealer in Georgia. It has been almost a month now and my gauge needle never goes past half way. I also had the screw in the hose problem also above the engine . I think that was a vaccum hose. I did not have enough room to stretch the rest of it so I got some gas line hose and replaced the whole section. Also I will tell you that your better off replacing the mirrors with ones that have metal stems. So what if you do not have top blinkers, you are going to crack one of them some day plus if your tall like me, you have to "hunker" down to look through them. Aftermarket ones are a little taller and work so much better. They also DONT MOVE AROUND". Make sure that they have 8mm threads, but most all scooters have this size thread. These are all small problems really. Other than these problems the power train on this bike is really good. I have read around on the net that this 250 motor is a honda clone and so far I believe that. I would not be afraid to take this scooter anywhere now. If you order this bike and your not mechanically inclined, you need to make arrangements for somebody that is to look this bike over. You will be better off. JDR

I received my Tank 250 in March,05. I had two problems, no front axle spacer and the starter relay was inop. I received the spacer and installed it. Loaded the scooter on my trailer and the only shop that would talk to me replaced the relay while the scooter was still on the trailer. My dealer reimbursed me for the cost of the relay. I also had the screw hole in the vacumn tube, pushed a 1/2" piece of barden hose over the hole. My mirrors (glass) viberated bad. I used velcro at three points between glass and frame and they are solid as a rock. I removed the trunk because it was the cause of instability at higer speeds. It is much more stable now. I still will not go over 55mph. With traffic and any wind it is not stable enough for me. I do not work and I find dressing properly for the ride is more than I want to do for a (go no where) ride therefor I only have 700 miles on it. It runs great and I get about 70mpg. No overheating. For the gentleman that was 54 years old, I am 77 and I also fly planes and riding the scooter is harder than flying. I think I will be selling the scooter, I just do not ride enough to justify keeping it. I really enjoy reading all the comments.

hey,I am glad I ran accross your article on the Tank Touring 250, I to have problems with vibration at idle and at 20 to 25 miles an hour, I had to replace the mirro's twice but to no avail, they vibrate so much you can't see out of them, I super glues the drivers side with a small wedge of wood, was ok untill I tried to adjust it just a little and then it cracked. I think the company should go good for mirro's that are more sturdy, and also address the vibration problem, if you can add any information about this please leave me know. I bought mine new in Jan 07 from motor sports in California, and had it shipped into wis.where I am from, Leave me know if you have any answers to these problems, I tried every source and got the run around, like I was the only person who had these proiblems with the Tand 250, other than the mirro's and vibration problems, I really like the cycle.

I can't seem to pin point it. My bike seems to get a little hot. am thinking about removing the thermostat. Anyone else having these problems and have a fix?

I just bought a Tank Urban Touring 250 DE off the internet (www.allnewsports.com). It arrived in GREAT condition, not a single scratch or part missing. I had it all put together in about two hours and then had to figure out why the brake lights were consistantly on. I discoverred that the sensor needed to be tightened. I also discoverred that the rear latch on the seat wouldn't close, so I muscled it into position and now it works just fine. After the MSO and other paperwork arrived (it's mailed seperately to deter theft during transit) I got it insured and registerred. Then I took it to a professional motorcycle mechanic to have it double-checked and inspected to insure that I assembled it correctly so that I do not void my LIFETIME WARRANTY (parts only). Then I took it out on the open road (20 MPH) to break it in and put nearly 200 km on it. When I got it home I discoverred that it was overheating, so I tore it apart and discoverred that the fan was not operating as frequently as it should be, so I will have that rewired into the ignition, so that anytime the ignition switch is turned to "on" the fan will run. Also the filler neck for the radiator was broken, which evacuated the coolant from the system and didn't allow for it to be replaced from the reservoir. I am currently looking for a new filler neck that is metal to avoid this problem again in the future. Also my trip odometer doesn't work, but other than that, I like my scooter, and think that it will be great once all the bugs are worked out. After all, I knew what I was getting into when I orderred it because I read these very reviews before buying it. I think it's a great value, and runs great overall.

I am answering my own comment (#73) The heating problem was found to be in the fuse box. Make sure all fuse connections are tight. All were loose in the box. The noise was due to the rubber bumper on the center stand was missing and was hitting the bottom of the case and causing the noise. The people who I bought the scooter got me a new speedometer as the clear plastic lense was broken and the trip meter did not function. I completed replacment today and am quite happy with my scooter..Everything works as advertised. My neighbor rides a 250cc Vespa and can't believe how well the tank rides and how little they cost compared to his machine. Hope this little blurb helps someone with the same problems. Keep it out of the trees. tom

I just purchased a used 2006 Tank Touring 250cc scooter and it's a blast. Acceleration is great, handling and traction is awesome. Gas mileage is perfect because it never costs more than $7.00 to fill her up! Great on surface streets, but does put out on the highways going over 60mph for long distances. Only other problem I've encountered is the mirrors vibrating and some odd sounds due to the vibrations. Other than that it's a great scooter and tons more fun to come!

I have purchased a Tank 150 Touring, and being a first time scooter for me, was great. However, I bought it from a Tool Store, that bought them off line and sold them as is (bad mistake), although a mechanic is on premises (you pay). After 1.5 mo's of driving, my trans went out, apparently, the trans was not bolted or fastened correctly. I then found a authorized Tank Dealer near me, and got it fixed (repairs are cheap). Anyhow, I bought it, b/c I needed a good commuter. I travel 21 miles to work everyday, one way (42mi/day). Unfortunately, the roads I travel have a 55 mph speed limit posting, and the tank reaches 55mph but struggles. It also depends on the wind and road conditions (steep roads etc), which I encounter, in my neck of the woods. I have tested a 250cc Tank, and it is much powerful. Also, the New Tank 250 DE, has the looks of a Honda Reflex. I have a pic, if you want me to forward it, just e-mail me. If you are looking for power, dont get a scooter. Unless you want to pay a lot of money for a Burgman or Kymco. If you dont travel on 55 mph roads, the tank 150 is ideal, but I would recommend the 250, as it will have the power to get you out of a predictament. Fit n Finish is ok, but you pay for whay you get. Insurance is pretty cheap and its nice to have the space and anti-lock front brakes. I hope this helps.

Purchased new Tank Touring 250cc yesterday from dealer located in Forest Park, Georgia. He spent one solid hour getting it to start. Kept changing batteries and fiddling with this and that. Previously I had a TANK 150cc and it never gave me any problems. So finally he got it running and it was idling smothly. He then told me to take it on a short test drive. I did and everything went smoothe. I noticed the gas gauges was on empty and told him about that. He pointed to the gas station next to his business. So I went over and filled up and it started very well for the second time. Drove it 13 miles home and handled very well. Did not exceed 55 mph using secondary roads. Put it in garage last night and got up this morning and went to crank it and it sounded like it was going to start but idle roughly but then all of a sudden it quit. Fortunately my mechanic lives just a couple of mile from me so I fetched him in my car. He came over and worked on it in excess of two hours and could not get it to start. Ambient temperature was about 65 degrees. So he took it to his home and workshop for tonight and is going to take a look at the carburator and fuel lines etc. It just makes you sick when you have something like this happen. I am sure he will get it fixed. Having read this blog was very interesting in that I was just able to call him and warn about the screw that is placing pressure and penetrating the vacuum line. Is anyone else still having problems with the engine reducing speed all of a sudden when you are at 60-70 mph. Has this issue be fixed yet. Good luck to all you folks. I think Tank is basically a reliable bike but you need to definitely get off on the right foot with it....Will make another post in a week or so.

    BALI 250:
I just bought a new BALI 250 from allnewsports.com and it was delivered promptly (within 3 days) totally undamaged. The paperwork took an additional 10 days. I decrated and assembled it (windshield, mirrors, and trunk) and checked it over. I found a few loose screws but all nuts and bolts (that I could get to easily) seemed tight. I like it, my mirros vibrate a little but they work OK. I did have to adjust the idle speed using the carburator idle speed adjustment screw (see allnewsports.com/faq). After this the engine starts right away, chokes up for a minute and then idles rough for another minute or two, then once warmed up, idles fine. I have put about 100 miles on it (if the odometer is in miles, hard to tell). It rides good and accelerates OK. The manuals are a joke however. It does state that during first 300 km (~186 miles) not to go over 35 mph. I have taken it up to 50 mph easily, however backed down to 35 per manual (want to break in gently). So far so good - temp stays at mid-range and no fluid leaks anywhere, engine brakes and steering all good. I will say that allnewsports were pretty good to me. So far I would recommend the bike and company, will have to see how things go down the road with the bike. If parts start to fail may change my opinion. I appreciate all of the comments here, I will check under the seat for the ventilation hose issue (hole produced by trim screw) and correct that if need be. Will pass along anything else as my experience with this bike progresses.

I bought a Bali 250cc scooter in mid Jan. and recieved it promtly by Feb.. I have been breaking it in, so I ride it with care. Had is up to 40 to 45 mph the other day at half throttle. It is comfortable and alot of fun. I changed the oil and gear oil yesterday as recommended. I will check for loose bolts and adjust the carburetor tomorrow. It owners manual says to do this after 150 km. About 90 miles. Scooters can be alot of fun but come with responsability too. Maintenance is the responsability end to owning a scooter. I owned a Yamaha scooter and a Chinese motorbike, so I know a few things about them. Maintenance is the key to keeping a machine working properly. I will change the antifreeze after I complete the carburetor is adjusted correctly. There is word out that the antifreeze causes currosion but mine is still blue indicating it is good. It also sat outside in 26 degree weather and has had no problems. It starts every time I turn the engine over. I took the scooter in at 12 degrees this Feb. and took apart the body parts to check it over. Made sure all gaslines went to the carb., that all electrical worked correctly, that all water lines were hooked up. This was to ensure that my scooter was ready to start. This was done with no gas in the engine. The last thing I needed to findout was that a major problem happened because I was anxious to start up what I paid $1685 for, and ruin it before riding it. The Chinese are pretty good at assembling scooter- the largest scooter manufacturer in the world are the Chinese. But anyhow, anyone can make errors. Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda make errors too. Some are critical. The online dealer only deals in them and may be in New York and the distributor in CA.. So the dealer never see's the product, so you the buyer needs to look over the scooter and make sure everything is hooked up correctly. Like my scooter, it is my baby once I handed over the cash. If it breaks down, well it is my problem to fix it. There are no American's whom work on Chinese scooters so one must be mechanically inclined. It gets 60 mpg. But they are fun to ride.

Update: The scooter has 800 km on it today and is still running good. I rode from Slater MO too Columbia MO the 14th of May. This was 60 miles one way at 55 to 60 mph.. It did not go past the middle between cold and hot, so I rode it the full distance. It ran great. 2 cars passed me in 60 miles. Not bad.. That is 120 miles round trip. Used 1.75 gallons of gas during the trip. I got home and checked everything out. Oil was full and still clean, antifreeze was full, the brakes are still full of fluid, tighten nuts and screws, ect.. Today the front rim made a noise. I took it off and put new grease on the front bearing and puck and now it is quiet again. I expect a little maintenance with the Roketa Bali 250cc scooter but I would do that if it was a Yamaha, Suzuki, or any brand of scooter.

I am in real need of a Scooter soon as my girlfriend lives an hour away.
I also drive a SUV and the gas bill is killing me. I was looking at the tank scooter and found this site
full of bad reviews. I found what looks like the same bike only water cooled and seller/dealer reports no vibrations.
I was told they are different from other dealers in that they deliver a better prepared scooter. They give it a go over and
deliver it complete. It's the Lance Duke Touring 250.
    http://www.thescootermall.com/LanceDuke250.html

I am ready to jump on this but wanted to ask, will I see the same problems? I could buy a jap bike for 8 grand but then where is the savings in
gas? I'd think the thing would about wear out before you broke even? Any comments greatly appreciated.

I really like the tank 250 other than I have had a lot of issues with it not wanting to maintain a charge and the oil pump has given me troubles it wants to heat up after about 5 miles still rtyiong to work the bugs out the best about is that it comes with a 3 year 36000 mile warranty what other scooters do that so I believe in it just need to clean up the bugs.

Well got over 1100 miles on my Roketa Bali 250 and it still starts great, runs good, antifreeze never boiled over, oil has always been clean, ect.. Changing oils, antifreeze, gear oil, greasing bearings is a must... But maintenance is a must, to keep any scooter running good. Mine still shines but since my son joined the National Guard I have put stickers all over it neatly. One says" My Son Is In The U.S. Army"," Raiders", Eagle and American Flag.. But made it more colorful.. I have had minor problems arise with the Chinese scooter- nothing major. Like gas tank does not reflect a true reading. It will read empty though 3/4ths full. Or the gas tank bolts became loose when riding so I replaced with lock nuts. But it runs great dispite a few minor problems..

My tank touring 250 has 5000 miles on it after a year of riding. That's probably 10% high though because of the speedo odometer error.
Absolutely got my monies worth from this machine for the $1500 I paid back then.
I had the tube hole everyone else had and other problems.
Coolant hose leak, battery won't charge, light switch failed.
But it is powerful, comfortable, and fun.
As with so many other things, it's very helpful when your able to fix stuff yourself.

I have a SunL 150. great riding bike except it has that same fuel starvation problem when it's warm out. Sunl refuses to answer emails at this point. I't's been in the shop more than on the road. Did you figure out the problem? My mechanic can't find it either.

Have you tried going to the dealer where you purchased the scooter from? If you bought it online, try go to www.lancepowersports.com to find a dealer near you and see if they can help~

i bought a tank 250cc touring de 08 and have only 4k miles on the scooter, so far i have to replace the front shocks because of a loud banging noise, 3 batteries that the bike is not charging , ive tested the regulator and magnito to know avail, im thinking theres a slow drawon my elec system somewhere, also, i have replaced the gasket twice that is inbetween the manifold and exhaust pipe, because of the bikes vibration issues theese bolts seem to work themselves free, now i m having carb problems the bike seems to dye on me at idle speed and also at high speeds, is there a speed converter to this damn thing, the bike just shuts down at speeds over 70 and has idle problems even after i have adjusted the idel screw several times, i have removed the fule filter several times blown and kissed that damn thing , and still stalls on me like it has bas gas, i also have this loud noise coming from my back end by or near my wheel axle, can anyone help with these issues ?my only question is where CAN I FIND A SHOP REPAIR MANUAL for this money pit of a junker? PLEASE HELP

i bought a tank 250cc touring de 08 it only has 4k and it has spent more time in the mech shop than on the road, i have so far replaced the front shocks, the gasket between the exh pipe and manifold, 2 batteries that were shorted out by a faulty regulator, the main safety switch that engages when you hold on the brake to start the bike has burned out, so i had to bypass with cross wiring that switch just to start the damn thing, now the newest twist is that after the bike has warmed up for about 20 minutes of travel, starts to putter out like it has bad gas, so i replaced the fuel filter, the spark plug and puled the carb which was clean still the the damn thing still cuts out, so i was talking to a honda tech who says the honda helix is the same engine as the tank 250 cc, he suggested to take a look at the auto choke located next to the carb and guess what that choke 's sensor is bad, that choke has been shutting the bike down when the bike warms up after twenty minuts , also, i have found a website with an online shop manual for the honda felix that i have been using to navigate my way through the chineese junker 250 cc, here it is :bill.laudeman.com/helix/manual/index.html

My Bali 250 scoot is still running good. There were some parts since the last time. Broke the windshield once fell over and broke and the other it became out and around the bolt area they broke. That costed $42 x 2.. Had a flat from the air stem just popping out. The Chinese simply add glue verses buying bolt down valve stems. Order bolt down type stems $20... Bought a new starter relay switch and it cost $32..Nothing major has occured. Runs good still.. At 3200 miles now.
